Medicare Part B Rebate 2026: CMS Says Eligible Beneficiaries Will Receive $90
Medicare’s 2026 Part B Payment Is $90, Not $80
There has been confusion about the amount of the newly announced Medicare payment. CMS calls it a one-time $90 Medicare Part B premium rebate for eligible beneficiaries in October 2026. It is not an $80 monthly credit, and CMS does not describe it as a recurring benefit.
CMS says the payment is intended to help offset the October Part B premium. The agency says most eligible beneficiaries will receive a direct deposit around October 8, 2026. People without direct deposit are expected to receive a paper check later in October.
Who Is Eligible for the $90 Medicare Part B Rebate?
CMS says the payment is for eligible people enrolled in Original Medicare Part B who live in the United States and meet the program’s premium-assistance rules. CMS estimates 20.8 million Americans are included.
CMS says these groups do not qualify:
- People whose Part B premiums are paid with Medicaid premium assistance;
- People who pay a Part B Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA); and
- People enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan.
That last point matters: Medicare Advantage members are not eligible for this specific rebate, even though their plans are part of Medicare. The payment is described for eligible Original Medicare Part B enrollees.
How Will the Payment Arrive?
CMS says most eligible beneficiaries will receive the $90 through direct deposit from the Social Security Administration. Those without direct deposit should receive a check at the mailing address on file with Medicare. CMS says beneficiaries can call 1-800-MEDICARE at 1-800-633-4227 to check eligibility. For payment status, CMS directs beneficiaries to the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 beginning October 15, 2026.
If you have questions about a notice or payment, use the official phone numbers above or visit Medicare.gov. Do not give banking details or your Medicare number to an unsolicited caller claiming to release your rebate.
A One-Time Rebate Does Not Change Your Medicare Coverage
The $90 rebate is a one-time payment. It does not change Medicare Part B benefits, guarantee lower premiums in future months, or automatically change a beneficiary’s Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, or prescription drug coverage. It should also not be confused with Medicare Savings Programs, which may help qualifying people pay Medicare premiums and other cost-sharing.
